A multimedia artist, TOFU’s work ranges from painting, to photography to collage. In his collages, TOFU uses cut up maps to construct new imagery such as quilt patterns, mandalas, portraits and even to form new maps.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of working with maps, Bay Area artist TOFU, has started  2011 Project: A Map of the Year in 365 Pieces. In this project TOFU will create a 4”x4” canvas for each day of 2011. The project will culminate in 2012 with an installation of all 365 canvases.

After the installation, TOFU plans to distribute all the paintings to donors, who will be asked to act as curators, supporting the project. TOFU will keep track of all the pieces, and in ten or twenty years, hopefully recompile them together into a new show. In this way the pieces will act as a time capsule, as their meaning and interpretation will change over time.
